Scott D. Cole, CFP® grew up in Hueytown, Alabama . After receiving a liberal arts degree from Samford University, he moved to Tuscaloosa and then to Fort Worth to study theology at seminary, receiving a Master of Divinity. He served in church related work for more than 18 years before returning to the academy to earn a Master of Science from the University of Alabama in their highly regarded financial planning program. Shortly thereafter, he sat for and passed the rigorous CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Exam .
In 2004, he opened Cole Financial Planning, a commission-free financial planning and wealth management firm with the goal of empowering people to reach their financial objectives without selling products. His firm commitment to a fiduciary standard of care coupled with a compassionate heart shaped through years in the ministry quickly captured the attention of both clients and colleagues within the financial planning community.
Scott’s work and expertise has been widely recognized throughout the country. He is an Adjunct Instructor teaching Retirement Planning for the University of Alabama. He has been quoted in such venerable publications as The Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, Investment News, Washington Post, ABCnews.com and many more. He is the financial expert for Alabama’s 13, airing a weekly personal finance segment for more than 5 years. He is a member of the Garrett Planning Network, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and the Birmingham Collaborative Alliance.
He is a frequent radio guest for a local news program and has written regular columns for the Tannehill Trader and Hoover Gazette. In 2006, he was awarded the Jack Davis Award for Professional Achievement by the University of Alabama’s College of Human Environmental Sciences. Most importantly, he is having the time of his life serving his clients.
Scott currently lives in the Birmingham area with his wife, Tracy, and his two daughters, Emerson Grace and Lily Hawkins. He is an avid fisherman, loves books and enjoys college sports, gaming, poker and public speaking. He has a weakness for doughnuts and electronic gadgets.
