Hot Topics on the Knowledge Bank – Winter 2012

One of the most valuable membership benefits that Garrett members cite is Garrett’s private Intranet community, known as the Garrett Knowledge Bank. Since the start of the Network in 2000, we have been with the same Intranet platform provider, but with the new year, we are excited to launch our new Intranet, provided by Central Desktop.

Central Desktop will allow Garrett members to better connect, communicate and share information. Following are some of its features and upgrades we are looking forward to:

• A stronger connection with other members thanks to status updates and having a personal photo attached to each posting.
• The ability to make comments on documents.
• Documents and discussions in one area, under one folder structure.
• File preview, which allows you to quickly view uploaded files, such as Word files, Excel spreadsheets and PDF documents, without the hassle of downloading and opening.
• The ability to search all documents, notes, discussions, attachments, databases, events and comments. This is a huge upgrade for us – it’s like having a Google search within the Knowledge Bank.
• Event Central is integrated with the Knowledge Bank instead of being on a separate site.
• It supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome.
• Web conferencing is integrated with the calendar.
• Instant streaming of our webinar recordings will allow members to view them quickly and easily without having to download.
• Email Digests, which are summaries of Intranet activity that are sent to members via email. You can elect to receive no digests at all or adjust the frequency of the emails from every 2 hours to once a month.
